Who We Are

About
LIVING ANATOMY...

I first began to teach anatomy in 2008 for the San Francisco School of Massage Advanced Program on an invitation from my friend and fellow Rolfer, Art Riggs. Its really been a wonderful process of evolving how to share what I feel is truly essential to understand about our bodies and movement!

Since 2015 I've been teaching what I call LIVING ANATOMY as part of DANCEmandala's Facilitator Trainings. This has allowed me to be freer in my approach - the material and themes now vary in each class but essentially I want to communicate:
- how to move safely free from injury or over-use
- how to recognize and go beyond our habits, allowing movement that is more individual and expressive
- wonder and gratitude in light of our bodies amazing complexity and interconnection!

In this I've been much influenced by Tom Myers (Anatomy Trains), Gil Hedley (Integral Anatomy,) Eric Dalton (Dynamic Body), Eric Franklin (Dynamic Alignment Through Imagery), Bonnie, Bainbridge Cohen (Body-Mind Centering) and Andrea Olsen (Bodystories). With massage students I used Andrew Biel's Trail Guide to the Body as text, supplemented with Ackland's wonderful Video Atlas. My original format was 40 hours over 5 days and roughly structured around the classic 10-Series in Rolf Structural Integration. I also offer individual classes on specific themes. My focus in teaching massage therapists is primarily clinical, though I always enliven classes with lots of movement and play. LIVING ANATOMY now offers experiential classes for dancers, yoga practitioners and all us interested in a richer and more intimate experience of our own bodies!
